The Flourish Initiative
Jeremiah 17:8 describes a tree deeply rooted in a stream so that it is forever fruitful. The vision God has given our church is that together we would Love God, Love People, and Change the World. When we really get this right, we will move beyond just being alive, we will FLOURISH. We stand at an exciting opportunity to invest in the future of the Christ United family. FLOURISH is a generosity initiative through which we will fund the two-year ministry plan of our church while paying off our second mortgage and funding the renewal and refreshing of our worship spaces.
They shall be like a tree planted by the water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when the heat comes, and its leaves shall stay green; in the year of drought, it is not anxious, and it does not cease to bear fruit. – Jeremiah 17:8
Flourish Financial Goals
IMPACT: $8,980,000 | Every ministry in our church exists to help people take their next step in their journey with Christ. So many of our ministries are community-facing, helping the diverse population of our city find a home with our Christ United family. The first component of FLOURISH is to fund our church’s two-year ministry plan as we continue to make a spiritual impact here in Mobile and beyond.
RELEASE: $520,000 | The history of our church is marked by a vision to reach our community with the resources God has placed in our care. There have been times when we have needed an influx of capital by strategically borrowing to sustain our church’s vision. The second component of FLOURISH is to pay off our second mortgage, releasing every dollar used to service that debt back into future ministry.
RENEW: 500,000 | Our campus is a critical tool for us to do ministry. It is also a tangible expression to our community and those who visit our church of our passion to be an impactful and relevant voice connecting our city to Christ. The third component of FLOURISH is to renew and refresh our worship spaces to continue and more effectively reach future generations who need to experience the love of Jesus.
PRIMARY GOAL: Everyone rooted and growing together.
Our primary goal over the next two years is that everyone will participate in Flourish and ultimately make a commitment to the Flourish initiative.

All Of It
On Sunday, October 19, my daughter, a student in college who works an hourly job to help with expenses, leaned over to me during the service and whispered, "Hey, I want to help," referencing Flourish. I said, "OK, let's get you a commitment card". She responded with expressing a desire to give out of her last paycheck. I asked her much she wanted to give from it. She replied, "all of it." She added, "I don't need it, I have enough." My wife and I were both overwhelmed and touched by her willingness to share what she has. The church means so much to our family. Our daughter grew up here, accepted Christ here, and has been discipled by many caring and Christ focused leaders. She is grateful for this church and fully believes in the mission. She is an example of that mission. She wants to be a part of helping advance the mission of this church in this community! I am thankful for Flourish and how it is helping disciple my daughter in giving. I don't think this would have occurred without this specific focus on how God calls each of us to prayerfully consider how we can be generous toward our mission as Christ United Church. She is getting it and watching her excitement about this reminded me that God does indeed love it when we are a "cheerful giver." – 2 Corinthians 9:7
