Pentecost is often referred to as the birthday of the church. It is the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples and tongues of fire rested on each one of them. The fire of the Holy Spirit has been burning ever since that spark. The same fire ignited the Methodist movement as John Wesley‘s heart was strangely warmed nearly 300 years ago. That same power of the spirit meets us each time we gather, especially when we gather for the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.
